Barbecue
America is known so well for its barbecue. There are a few different kinds you can try, such as the Texas barbecue, Kansas City, Memphis, and Carolina barbecue, but whatever the case you’re gonna be in for a great time. Some of the best meats to try include the brisket, the baby back ribs, the sausages, pulled pork, and tri-tip just to name a few. And if you go to the right restaurant you’ll get meats that are beautifully marinated, smoked, and with a rocking barbecue sauce and meat that is tender and juicy. So if you are in the US or you’re traveling to the US, then you cannot miss out on American BBQ. Go ahead, give it a shot. It is one of the most epic meals you can eat in the U.S.
Biscuits and Gravy
This is a very old-school traditional American food that really represents comfort food in America. It’s pretty self-explanatory: biscuits are the light gray and thick gravy sauce on top, and usually the best biscuits are those that are freshly made with a gravy sauce that has that beautiful creamy taste to it. You’ll find these in many American breakfast restaurants, usually eaten as a side dish or appetizer to your main meal. So if you want some of that traditional comfort food at its best, then go look for some of these beautiful biscuits and gravy and get a taste of old-school America.
Buffalo Wings
Despite how it sounds, this is not actually buffalo meat, rather they are small chicken wings and drumsticks that are smothered with what’s called buffalo sauce, which is this orange-red sauce that’s thick, spicy, and tangy and extremely tasty. In many restaurants, buffalo wings are served as appetizers, but some restaurants specialize in these as main meals, which is probably where you want to go to try this. So if you’ve never had buffalo wings before, then give it a shot because it is one of the coolest things to eat, especially as a group.
Clam Chowder
This is America’s most popular soup that you can’t miss. It originated on the east coast of the US and has many variations which differ whether it is in New York, Delaware, or Rhode Island, but the typical clam chowder is a thick white-colored soup that contains clams in it along with potatoes, celery, and onions, and usually comes with a side of saltine crackers. This is another American comfort food that’s good especially on a cold day. So if you need to try one soup in the US, then I would recommend going to clam chowder because this represents American cuisine at its best.
Fried Chicken
Another one of the great American foods, which has many variations around the world right now. American fried chicken is essentially pieces of chicken that are coated and deep-fried so that it is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside if made right. There are a few different variations of these in the US including the Nashville hot chicken and a southern style, but in any case, you’ll find fried chicken almost everywhere in the US. It serves as great fast food as well as a nice sit-down meal. If you never had American fried chicken before, then this is something you absolutely need to try in the U.S. It is really great comfort food. It’s tasty. It’s not healthy but it’s good.
Hamburger
When you think of American cuisine, hamburgers are usually on the top of the list. It is essentially a flat piece of brown beef that is charbroiled and put between two bread buns along with toppings of tomato, lettuce, and pickles. Toppings can vary according to the restaurant you go to and of course, many people love to add a piece of cheese in it, which then becomes a cheeseburger. So if you’ve never had burgers in the US before, then you’re missing out because that’s probably the first thing you should get if you are visiting the U.S.
Hotdogs
Another one of the top American foods that come to mind. These are everywhere in the US, which is usually a great fast food to eat that is cheap and tasty. It’s a piece of hotdog that is put in the bread bun and the toppings usually consist of onions, relish, ketchup, and mustard. However, the toppings can vary depending on how creative the restaurant is. If you’ve never had a hot dog before, then get it, especially if you are at a sporting game in the US, then this is something that goes really well with that game.
Pizza
Pizza is another one of the anthem foods in America. The pizza originated in Italy but the US has adopted it and made it its own. There are many different pizza styles that America makes, but if I had to narrow it down, I would really recommend that you try the New York style pizza and the Chicago deep-dish pizza. These are really classic American pizzas that everyone loves and you can find these just about everywhere in the US. So if you’ve never had a pizza before in the US, then go ahead and get a slice of it or perhaps order a whole pie and enjoy the whole thing.
Reuben Sandwich
America is known for its many sandwiches ranging from turkey sandwiches to pastrami, but if I had to narrow it down to a bona fide American sandwich, go with the Reuben sandwich. There are many variations of these in the US, but what’s common amongst most of the Reuben sandwiches are the corned beef with the Swiss cheese and the rye bread. It’s a gigantic meal and if you are a meat lover, then you should go with this. It’s definitely not for the health-conscious, but if you don’t care about any of that, then this is the meal for you.
Thanksgiving
This meal is usually eaten once a year during the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s composed of a whole cooked turkey with stuffing inside, not to mention the many sides to choose from, which includes mashed potatoes, candied yams, corn, and a whole bunch of other good stuff. It’s one of the most festive meals that you can eat in America and there are really only two ways to eat it: either at a restaurant or at somebody’s home. But if you can find the home-cooked version, I would say go ahead with that. You know, spend some time with family and friends and just enjoy that meal. So there you have it with the 10 must-try American foods, whether you’re living in the United States or you’re planning to travel. If you stick with these ten, then like I said, you are really going to get a taste of American food at its best.

Bonus Feature
Hey guys, I have a bonus feature I wanted to throw in a close number 11 if 10 is not enough for you. So if I had to narrow it down to an 11th must-try American food, I would say try the American steak. I’m not talking about just any cheap steak or you know just the steak that you would order in a casual restaurant. I say go with the high-caliber expensive steak, even if you have to pay the big money. Try the American steak because if you try an American steakhouse, you’re really going to know that they make some of the best steaks in the world, if not the best.
